In celebration of the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Allen County-Fort Wayne Historical Society, the History Center will host a free 90th Anniversary Open House June 13-18.
Fort Wayne and area residents are invited to “Discover Fort Wayne” and its history by exploring the museum, located at 302 East Berry Street.
“We are excited to be able to present this gift of a week of free admission to the residents of this area,” said Todd Maxwell Pelfrey, executive director.
“The City’s initiative to encourage citizens to explore their community speaks in part to why the historical society was founded to preserve our past. We are firmly committed to the idea that genuine history is where the past meets the present for the benefit of the future.”
Special displays celebrating the History Center and Historical Society in the years from 1921 to the present day will be on view.
The 90th anniversary celebration culminates with a dinner on June 21 featuring John Beatty speaking on Fort Wayne in the early 20th century and the honoring of descendants of the founding members of the Historical Society. Judge William Lee will be the master of ceremonies.
