June 3, 2009, WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce is in Washington D.C. today with a delegation of Chamber members to lobby Indiana’s elected officials against proposed card check union organizing legislation. The controversial bill would eliminate the private ballot, give the federal government power to dictate workplace pay and benefits and force unfair mandates on small business.
"With our region’s significant concentration of manufacturing, healthcare and financial services, this legislation could have an extremely negative effect on businesses in our area," said Joni Howell, manager of Government Affairs at the Chamber.
"We hope that Senator Bayh and the rest of our Congressional Delegation will agree with us that EFCA is bad for Northeast Indiana businesses and workers. This is not a time to compromise with issues that would do such damage to our economy," Howell continued.
The card check bill was introduced in the House on March 10 with 223 original co-sponsors and 40 co-sponsors in the Senate. The legislation fell short of moving forward in the Senate in 2007 by just 9 votes. Protecting the secret ballot was also on the Chamber’s Federal Agenda last year.

Building the Value for Members with New Chamber Web Site
The Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce announces the launch of a newly redesigned Web site which provides value-added features to enhance Chamber member businesses as well as the Northeast Indiana business community.The Chamber Web site URL remains the same – www.fwchamber.org – but the features go a long way in building value for Chamber members through improving member communications and supporting long-term membership goals.
“We are thrilled to present our new Web site to the community,” says Shannon McNett-Silcox, Vice President of Member Relations. “Our goal was to create a member-centric site, one that allowed us to drive traffic to our membership. Most notably, we can track site visits and provide our members with statistics to support their return on investment.”
Key enhancements include:
· Secure member login
· Searchable member directory
· Member ability to instantly update contact information
· Enhanced press room with member ability to upload press releases
· Searchable Chamber calendar and online registration for events
· Member ability to upload organization events to community calendar
· Catalogue of member discounts
· Northeast Indiana community information for visitors and businesses interested in relocation
· Renewals and event fees processed online
Chamber members and visitors will be able to navigate through the site with improved usability and see direct benefits for their business in terms of promotion and communication with Northeast Indiana and the greater community.
The Chamber is proud to have the following major supporters featured on the site: Tower Bank, North Eastern Group Realty, Northeast OB/Gyn Women’s Health Group, Beckman Lawson, Parkview Hospital and Brand Innovation Group (BIG).
The Web site’s content management was designed by Chamber WebLink which is based out of Indianapolis. Chamber WebLink has worked with over 350 Chambers of Commerce and member-based organizations across the United States to help build online, interactive value for their membership.

New Communications Intern Joins Chamber Team
Khrista Beckmann has joined the Chamber as the Communications Intern. Khrista is a Junior at Taylor University Fort Wayne.Before coming to the Chamber she had interned at Niswonger Performing Arts Center in Van Wert Ohio as their Marketing Intern. She has also worked on the following campaigns: Allen County Right to Life Billboard Campaign, Taylor University Online, and Panhurst Farms Marrakech Morocco. She currently sets on the Student Government at Taylor as the Vic President of Student Relations.
"We are so delighted to have someone with Khrista’s experience and talents join our team. Khrista brings a wealth of experience to the Chamber and will have a direct impact on our communications efforts," said Nicole Wilkins, Communications Manager.
Beckmann was born in Lima, Ohio and graduated from Temple Christian High School in 2005. She will be graduating from Taylor University Fort Wayne in May of 2009 with her B.A. in Professional Writing and her B.S. in Marketing Communication.

April 22, 2008, Fort Wayne, Ind. -The Board of Directors of the Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce has announced that Ms. Kristine G. Foate will be the new President/CEO of the organization, effective May 15, 2008. The Board is pleased to welcome Ms. Foate to the Chamber after a thorough six-month selection process.
"This is a pivotal time in the Chamber's legacy and the Board has full confidence that Kristine Foate is exactly the right person to lead us into the next chapter," according to Don Schenkel, Chairman of the Chamber's Board of Directors. "With her impressive credentials and demonstrated community involvement, she will provide the inspired leadership that our organization needs."
Ms. Foate is an award winning professional with more than 20 years of leadership experience in radio, television and publishing. Most recently, she has held positions as President and CEO of Summit City Radio Group, Senior Vice President of Operations for Pinpoint Publishing and Director of Marketing and Development for the YMCA of Greater Fort Wayne. In 2004, 2005 and 2006, she was named Radio Ink's 50 Most Influential Women in Radio. Kris was also recognized as an ATHENA Award® nominee in 2006.
Kris takes her responsibility to the community seriously. She is active in United Way of Allen County and is a member of the Rotary Club of Fort Wayne. Kris also serves on numerous boards including Leadership Fort Wayne, Artlink, and Erin's House and is the Chair of Invent Tomorrow. She is a graduate of the Leadership Fort Wayne class of 2006 and holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Illinois and a Juris Doctor from the University of Wisconsin. "Kris Foate knows our people and organizations, has experienced the challenges we face and believes in the possibilities for our community. She is committed both to the bottom line and to the common good," adds Don Schenkel.

Chamber to Partner on Mayor's State of the City Address

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Putting his own stamp on a Fort Wayne leadership tradition, Mayor Tom Henry announced that the State of the City address will be a signature event for the community during his tenure. He issued a special invitation to the public to attend the first of these hallmark speeches set for noon Wednesday, Feb. 27 at the Grand Wayne Center.
“Even in the midst of these changeable times, Fort Wayne is a place filled with opportunity,” said Mayor Henry. “By working together, marshalling our creativity and making every dollar work doubly hard, I know we can keep our momentum growing. I look forward to the State of the City. Let’s talk about how we continue to make Fort Wayne a first-choice city known for its good jobs, healthy neighborhoods, innovation, fiscal stewardship and climate of possibility.”
The City is partnering with the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce and The Fort Wayne-Allen County Economic Development Alliance to host the address.
The event is free and open to the public. Those interested in attending should RSVP by 5 p.m. February 25 with the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce. The mission statement reads: “The Daily Dose is the Chamber’s answer to timely, member-focused business news and content. Get your ‘daily dose’ of the latest Chamber happenings and information relevant to you, your business and the greater Northeast Indiana community.”
The blog, currently available at http://www.chamberdailydose.blogspot.com/ will be housed on the Chamber’s new web site when it is launched in Spring 2008. Interested readers may sign up to receive information posted on the blog by email or RSS feed. Members are invited to post comments and create a meaningful two-way dialogue.
