Trine Introduces New Dept & Program this Fall

Trine University’s Department of Sport & Hospitality Management will have a new name and a new major to offer when fall semester classes begin Aug. 24. The new Department of Sport Management & Exercise Science will launch a new bachelor of science degree with a major in exercise science, a 124-credit-hour degree combining business, exercise science and general education courses.

The degree will equip graduates for careers as personal trainers or exercise specialists in fitness facilities or prepare them for graduate studies in exercise science or physical therapy. The program will include a capstone paper and presentation created through independent study and demonstrating the student’s professionalism and familiarity with exercise science; an internship involving the observation of and participation in a field of exercise science; and personal training certification preparation for the national exam by the National Council on Strength and Fitness. To support the exercise science major, Trine will establish a new fitness laboratory in Shambaugh Hall.
