Insights From the New VP

by Michelle Merritt, VP Member Relations & Communications

With two weeks now complete, I’m starting feel a little more “settled” in. Of course, this team & our members make it easy to feel a part of things quickly. They say people do business with people they like. If that’s the case, I’ll be doing business with this group for a long time to come!

The first two weeks have also shown me a very consistent theme. I’m getting asked the same question over and over in the community. Sometimes the question’s whispered almost as if the person is embarrassed to ask. Other times it’s a very direct question and still yet in other cases it’s an “oh by the way” type of question. Regardless of how I am approached or by whom, the question in its variety of forms still has the same theme: “So what exactly does the Chamber do?”

I already love being asked this repeat question! It makes me smile each time someone asks. The question itself demonstrates a business community that is engaged and wants to know what’s going on. The more people ask, the more we will be able to share our story. We can inform our community as to how we have been helping & most importantly how we can help in the future. As the new VP at the Chamber I’m well aware of the need to seize opportunities as they present themselves (and sometimes even before that!) & answering this question always provides great opportunity!

In the upcoming weeks, we’ll be dedicating various blog posts to this very question. We’ll break down each section of what the Chamber does & how it benefits business in Fort Wayne. So if you have questions or specific topics you want to know more about, contact me so we can get those questions answered. If you’re wondering, chances are someone else is too!
