Feet on the Street: Lushin Training Makes You Think

by Aimee Scott, Member Relations Specialist

How do you show up for your day?  What are you pretending
not to know that is keeping you from accomplishing more?  How are you “being” in contribution to others?

Do any of these questions make you go “hmmm…”?

If you are ready to get real with yourself and serious about pursuing your purpose, Paul Lushin has a few more questions for you.

Lushin and Associates
joined the Chamber in November. The organization is rapidly developing a presence in Fort Wayne though headquartered in Indy. A few of us at the Chamber are taking “feet on the street” to a whole new level by participating in his (Paul Lushin’s) weekly sales training sessions. I’ll never forget one of his first responses to a question posed in class. “How long does this training last?” Paul says, “forever” without flinching. He gives you this serious, almost stern look. “No, seriously,” the classmate asks again, “how many weeks is this training?” Again, Paul answers, “forever.”

The reason he says this is because his concepts and techniques are taught through reinforcement training. We all know how inspiring those two-day seminars can be, but seriously, how many of us actively implement what we’ve learned right away? New techniques, attitudes and behaviors seldom stick without accountability and reinforcement.

At first it is a little intimidating – especially for those who are less experienced in sales. Paul assumes different identities in “role play” without warning! It is not always clear whether he is “working you” (as he calls it) or being real. But if you watch and listen carefully, you will see that he is teaching, in all moments. He is making the most of every opportunity to reach someone, on some level.

I love it. My co-workers and I have discussed how it has really aided us in our approach during the work day. On a personal level, I can honestly say I have used tools from his class to assess many areas in my life that cause me to hold back. Why do so many of us “hold back?” In the beginning, several of us in class would try to “rescue” each other from his challenges. Now though, we see the value, and I think we are finding ourselves being a bigger part of each others growth than we could’ve realized seven weeks ago.

I could write on and share all of the details… but I’d be giving away the Lushin secrets. Visit the website at
www.lushin.com and you’ll be privy to some of them. You can sign up to receive his weekly emails as well. I recommend you do!
