Feet on the Street: Hoosier Park

Last month my co-worker and friend Laureen Voirol and I took a little road trip to Hoosier Park Racing & Casino in Anderson, Indiana, and met with Ginger Shaw.

Ginger had invited us to come and tour their facility and experience it first-hand as she mentioned, “Unless you come to visit, you are really not aware of what all Hoosier Park has to offer.”

It took Laureen and me a little over an hour to reach our destination of Hoosier Park in which one has no problem navigating as it is just off the highway and there is more than ample parking.

Ginger was waiting for us just inside the door ready to give us a tour. After touring the facility and enjoying lunch, what I learned the most was the fact that Hoosier Park is NOT just a casino. They offer concerts, great food and meeting rooms – offering another choice for one to pick from when planning an event of any kind be it: party, class reunion, wedding reception, office meeting or just to get away for the day.

The “Top of the Park Room” is one meeting room that guests can rent which has a great view of the horse racing track which has “no nosebleed section” as Ginger commented. It holds 45 people and can be arranged as the guest would like. This room is also the room used by the bands for relaxing in before and after concerts. To name a few notables that have performed at Hoosier Park are The Charlie Daniels Band, Aretha Franklin,
Lee Greenwood and the Oakridge Boys and recently The Beach Boys on July 11 that drew over 5000 people.

Ginger shared that when Tony Orlando was scheduled to perform, a local assisted living center had tied yellow ribbons around each of the trees on their property. Tony spent over an hour interacting with them due to that act of kindness.

Ginger Shaw is in Fort Wayne a few days each week. If you or your place of business is ever looking for something different for entertainment or meeting purposes regardless of “head count” (they have bus trips as well) consider contacting Ginger. If she is able, she’ll even hand-deliver the tickets to you. Here’s how you can reach her:
(765) 609-4615 or (765) 640-2975 and her email address is: ginger.shaw@hoosierpark.com.
