Tapestry Honoree to Present Workshop for Women's Business Forum

Dorian Maples, RN, BA, CMC, a 2011 Tapestry Dedication Award Honoree, will present a workshop on balancing career and care giving at the third annual Women’s Business Forum at Trine University in Angola, Ind.

Tapestry’s Dedication Award honors female role models in the community who reflect positivity in all facets of life. Maples was announced as a recipient of the honor on Feb. 23. She is known throughout Northeast Indiana as a pioneer in the field of home health care.

Maples has dedicated her career to caring for older adults and persons with disabilities since she started out in health care as a Registered Nurse in 1979. Her skills led her to obtain a BA in Management and Communication which allowed her to pursue management roles in health care. She would later become the first Registered Nurse in Indiana to be recognized as a full member of the National Association of Professional Geriatric Care Managers.

In 1996 she created Home Nursing Services, a licensed certified in-home care agency, and in 1997, established First Call Medical Staffing, a provider of supplemental staffing for medical facilities. In 2001, she founded Angel Corps in response to the need for non-medical, in-home care. In 2003, Dorian Maples & Associates was started to honor those in need of professional consultation for the care management of adults in the fullness of their life. Maples is a certified Professional Geriatric Care Manager.

Maples' honors include a Governor’s appointment to the state CHOICE board and the Nora J. McFarland Award. She is also active on Mayor Henry’s Senior Advisory Council, acts as a big sister with Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and is a founding member of Caring Ministry of Fellowship Ministry Church.

On May 19, Maples, along with her associate Ruth Force, will share her passion for care with the Women’s Business Forum. Maples and Force will present "TEMPO: Honoring Those in the Fullness of Their Life." TEMPO stands for Timing, Experience, Motivation, Place and Outcome.

Together they will address the role many women face as caregivers to their parents, children and grandchildren while balancing career and other life activities.

Ruth Force, MS, LSW, CMC, joined Angel Corps and Dorian Maples & Associates in 2005. She has extensive experience as a social worker in the long term care industry. Force is a certified Professional Geriatric Care Manager and Eden At Home trainer.
