The new Visitors Center serves as a “front door” for our community, welcoming guests and offering visitor guides, maps, directions, event listings, and more. The new space also features improved visitor services including digital signage and touch screen kiosks, additional souvenirs and merchandise, seating areas and more.
The new location features a freshly designed Visitors Center, expanded visitor parking opportunities, new offices, and a conference room where they can better accommodate meeting and tournament planners. The new home for Fort Wayne's official destination marketing organization will be showcased at a community open house later in October.
In conjunction with this new location, a new name for the organization is also being rolled out. The Board of Directors unanimously agreed to adopt the new name: Visit Fort Wayne. The unanimous decision by the board to adopt this name was based on a few different reasons, including:
- A clear, immediately understandable name that ends confusion about whether the organization is a part of the City or the Convention Center (which it is not). Using a name that expresses the core mission will do just that.
- In addition, most consumers best relate to the city name. They search for the destination by name when making travel plans, and Visit Fort Wayne wanted to be readily accessible by that municipality name.
- Many other destinations are making the switch to simple names that mirror their web presence (Visit Pittsburgh, Destination DC, Visit Charlotte) and they anticipate this style of name will become the standard nationwide.
Visit Fort Wayne is excited about this new direction and energy for the organization, which is as dedicated as ever to the mission of encouraging convention groups, sports teams, families and other visitors to Visit Fort Wayne!
