Lou Holtz Establishes Scholarship at Indiana Tech

Legendary football coach Lou Holtz has established a scholarship fund at Chamber member Indiana Tech after speaking at the university’s 2010 Commencement and getting to know the Indiana Tech community. The Lou Holtz Persistence Scholarship will assist students in the College of Professional Studies who are experiencing a temporary economic hardship. A maximum of $5,000 will be awarded each year through the Lou Holtz Persistence Scholarship. Each scholarship will be worth $500 and will be used to bring a student’s existing balance current or allow a student to continue with his or her next class.

The College of Professional Studies offers undergraduate and graduate programs in an accelerated format. The program is designed to accommodate nontraditional students who also have to balance work, family, and community responsibilities. Undergraduate courses are offered in nine five-week sessions per year, while graduate courses are offered in eight six-week sessions per year.

Students facing financial difficulties can choose not to enroll for a session; however this can slow their progress toward degree completion. The goal of the Lou Holtz Persistence Scholarship is to help students stay continuously enrolled so that they maintain momentum toward graduation.
