Looking Back... Brookwood Golf Club

By Lauren Richwine, Communications Specialist

It was 1928 when the Brookwood Golf Club first opened in Fort Wayne. The course did well up until the Great Depression and if it hadn’t been for Emma Klein, who knows what condition it would be in today. Emma, who was secretary to the President of Lincoln Bank at the time, purchased the course in 1941. She owned and ran Brookwood for many years until Jim Kelly of Kelly Automotive and Mike Driver, her Course Superintendent of many years, purchased the course together. In 2006 Brookwood was sold to its current owner, Fort Wayne International Airport.

Although at the Chamber we are constantly pressing into the future, we also want to honor and remember the history of our community. That’s why this year’s theme for the annual Chamber Golf Outing as hosted by Brookwood Golf Club is “Fort Wayne Famous: People, Places and Things that Put Fort Wayne on the Map.” Team registrations and event sponsorships are still available. Golfers can register as individuals or as teams of four ($150 per person, $600 per team) for a morning or afternoon flight.

There will also be a special Meet Me @ 5 at the conclusion of the Golf Outing, with hors d’oeuvres provided by Mad Anthony Brewing Co., a silent auction, and socializing with the golfers to end the event in style. Special thanks to our Silver Sponsor, Lutheran Health Network, our Bronze Sponsor,
Glenbrook Square, and our Beverage Cart Sponsor, Mad Anthony Brewing Co.!
