Yesterday an announcement was made that has great significance for member IPFW. The Talent Initiative is disbursing grant funds totaling $500,000 to IPFW's College of Engineering, Technology, and Computer Science's (ETCS) Department of Computer Science. The money will be used to establish a research and development center - the Information Analytics and Visualization Center (IAVC).
The Center will include high-speed computers that are similar to those used to make the blockbuster Avatar. These computers will be able to perform the complex calculations needed to create high-quality 3D images. There will also be a 3D projection system to create a life-sized virtual environment, and interactive devices including 3D glasses, data gloves, eye-tracking equipment, wide-screen monitors, and head-mounted displays.
One of the Center's goals will be to partner with local and regional business, industry and government for collaborative projects. The Center will also offer seminars and workshops.
All of this is meant to strengthen IPFW's engineering-related programs and develop more local engineering talent for careers in our region's defense and aerospace industry. That's a goal that is near and dear to the heart of the Chamber as well - that's what our Graduate Retention Program is all about! Read more about this story in our Press Room.
