I'm a fan of watching the national figure skating championships on TV each year. Whether figure skating or speed skating is more your thing, we will have a different way to experience these sports next year! Chamber member Allen County War Memorial Coliseum has landed another major event which will draw tourism and revenue to the city, the Fort Wayne Business Weekly reported today. Next summer United States Roller Sports will bring the national speed skating and figure skating championships to the Coliseum.
The events could draw as many as 5,000 people, which of course translates into dollars as visitors use the city's hotels and restaurants, and enjoy our tourism activities - the economic impact for Fort Wayne could be as much $6 million.
I would be remiss not to mention another huge, member-related event taking place this weekend at the Coliseum.... the annual Vera Bradley outlet sale could bring over $9 million in local spending according to the article, with over 60,000 visitors expected in Fort Wayne as a result of the sale.
