Every once in a while it's nice to pause and reflect on our accomplishments. We may not be a booming metropolis... we may not be New York City... but we have a lot going for us. In fact, our size, location, and demographic compilation are strengths in our favor.
According to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation, Fort Wayne has the distinction of having ranked among the top metropolitan areas in the U.S. for 2009, according to number of projects. That's a significant accomplishment. Our city falls under the category of metros with population of 200,000 to 1 million, tying for 8th place as a destination for new corporate investment. As a state, Indiana ranked 10th, according to Conway Data Inc.'s New Plant Database. Conway's data results are published in Site Selection magazine.
Our neighbor, Elkhart, Indiana was ranked as the top destination for metros with populations of less than 200,000. Mitch Roob, Secretary of Commerce and chief executive officer for the IEDC, says:
"Indiana's low-cost business environment is a key differentiator that has attracted many companies to our state in the midst of a competitive economy."
As a matter of fact, Forbes magazine recently ranked Fort Wayne itself as one of the top fifteen cities in the U.S. for low business and living costs. And so, just another reason to say - go Fort Wayne!
