Earlier today City of Fort Wayne and Allen County officials unanimously agreed to share the City-County Building and Renaissance Square (200 E. Berry St.). The City plans to pay at least $8 million to renovate Renaissance Square, and the County will spend at least $4 million to prepare the City-County Building. $1 million of that sum was offered by the City to the County to be put towards the police crime lab. Much of the Fort Wayne Police and Allen County Sheriff's dept.'s are anticipated to locate in the City-County Building. Fort Wayne Police Chief Rusty York and Allen County Sheriff Ken Fries were both present, and their input sought as to the co-location of the two dept.'s. These cost estimates are at the low end of the spectrum, and furniture and moving costs are not included in the totals.
