SBDC announces sping workshops for small businesses

The Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is offering the following workshops and courses in late March or April to assist entrepreneurs and small business owners with starting and/or growing their businesses:

Basics of a Winning Business Plan Workshop

● Monday, March 21, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Fort Wayne (N.E. Indiana SBDC, 4312-B Hobson Road)

● Thursday, April 14, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Auburn (William H. Willennar Genealogy Center)

● Tuesday, April 26, 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Huntington Chamber of Commerce

This workshop will present tips and tricks for writing a successful business plan through a mixture of class discussion and exercises. Information presented includes the need for and the basic elements of a winning plan, including what lending institutions require.

● Wednesday, April 13, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Fort Wayne (N.E. Indiana SBDC, 4312-B Hobson Road)

Through this workshop, individuals who are thinking about opening a business will gain an overview of the critical elements of starting a business. The format will be lecture-based with participatory activities. Topics include: defining and assessing the business idea, requirements for operating a business, creating a business plan, legal issues, and types of financing and financial strategies.

Funding Options & Financial Literacy for Small Business Workshop

● Monday, April 18, 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Fort Wayne (N.E. Indiana SBDC, 4312-B Hobson Road)

This seminar will introduce funding sources for small business, including commercial lending, the Small Business Administration, as well as state, regional and local programs, and is intended for individuals starting a business as well as owners of existing businesses that are investigating revenue options. Participants will learn strategies to consider in the lending process and the importance of understanding basic financial terminology and concepts.

QuickBooks: How to Work the Numbers Course (meets six times)

● Thursdays, 4/21/11 through 6/2/11, 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne

This introduction to electronic bookkeeping and accounting is user friendly and an excellent choice for small businesses. Learn how to set up a new company and perform business-related tasks such as writing checks, invoicing, tracking receivables and payables, inventories, bank reconciliations, payroll functions, and journal entries. You also will learn how to print various important reports and financial statements.
