Introducing... Miller Scales & Food Machines

Here's another great new member for you to get to know. You know those every day items that we take for granted but don't often think about how they come to be? For instance... casing for sausages?

Well somebody makes a living off of those things! Here's one new member, Miller Scales & Food Machines, Inc., that is a supplier to butchers. They sell casing for sausages, knives, scales, refrigeration - and spices that they prepare themselves. This business has been in our community for almost 50 years, and had its beginnings in a garage! Now they are a leading supplier in the Tri-state area when it comes to smoke cooking and meat processing equipment, ingredients and butcher supplies. Miller Scales started out as a family-owned business, and was recently bought by a young entrepreneur named Cliff Ellis. Cliff recently relocated to Indiana from Chicago (he is originally from here).

One unique element of Miller Scales & Food Machines business is the seasonings they prepare themselves. They have over 50 products in a line they call the "Country Blend," including spices, soups, steak sauce, salsa and more. Retailers can have their own business name applied to the Country Blend line and sell from their shelves. They also have a test kitchen where they will gladly demonstrate their machinery and products.

This is a great example of a local business that has its roots in small beginnings and strengthens the community by its presence - after all, someone has to produce those sausage casings! I encourage you to check out their Web site at MillerScales.com.
