Insights from the New VP

by Michelle Merritt, VP of Member Relations & Communications

My first week at the Chamber is officially complete & what an amazing week it was!  It could be described as busy, fun, a little chaotic, full of amazing people, & an incredible opportunity.  I thought I'd take a few minutes to put "fingers to keys", sharing what I've learned so far.

Chamber Members are very dedicated people!  As the emails, phone calls, notes (even from the Lt. Governor), plants, meals, and fruit baskets arrived this week I realized that this community is rooting for the Chamber's success & ultimately mine.  What a gift!  Very few people have the luxury of starting a new job with such a large cheering section.  While some of them have been from my personal friends, many have not.  This community is rooting for the Chamber to succeed & is thankful for all it's done so far.  You're committed, loyal, and dedicated to helping us help you.  You are the reason we succeed.

Life at the Chamber is ever changing.  No two days are ever alike, that's for sure, but there's a consistent theme running through each of them.  Members first.  The desire to serve the member is consistent in all we do.  Do we get caught up in the busy work sometimes?  Of course we do.  However, each staff member's heart is for you, the member.  We are working to provide expertise...to be that trusted resource...that go-to team.  YOU are the heart of all we do.

We have a lot of work to do!  Just like you our work is never done.  We are continually striving to make a strong local impact to the
Fort Wayne area, serve our members, generate ideas, & improve the business community.  With your help we will continue to accomplish great things!

Work at the Chamber isn't for the faint of heart.  As my dad would say, "This is roll up your sleeves kind of work".  While you're managing your business or accounts or customers, we're rolling up our sleeves to be by your side.  We're working to improve each day.  We'll be there to celebrate your success & we'll be there to lean on in times of struggle.  We’re ready to work & we're right here with you.

Reflecting on the first week leaves me feeling it was a huge success!  As I envision the future, I’m asking for your feedback, input, and ideas so that we can make your Chamber even better.  Please contact me anytime, mmerritt@fwchamber.org.
