You combine two of my favorite things – a good book, and a good snack, and you are sure to get my attention. Ivy Tech is looking for entries for their 4th annual Edible Book Festival. Yes – you read that correctly.
Should you choose to accept the challenge, your task is to create an edible rendition of a book or a theme based on a book for public display and, you guessed it – consumption. Should your entry be accepted, it will be displayed at the Edible Book Festival on April 1st for a public viewing at Noon and a reception and “book tasting” at 1 p.m. If you’d like to try, applications can be found here, and entries are due this Friday.
You might ask yourself who came up with this wonderful and crazy idea of edible books. Ivy Tech’s event is held in conjunction with the International Edible Book Festival – an annual event held every April 1st that brings bibliophiles, book artists, and food lovers together in celebration of French gastronome Jean-Anthelme Brillat-Savarin (1755-1826) – famous for his book Physiologie du goût, a witty meditation on food. The first Edible Book Festival took place in 2000, and many countries have participated, including the U.S., Australia, Brazil, India, Japan, Mexico, Ireland, England, and Germany.
