Chamber Foundation President Gives Economic History Lecture

Don't miss Maclyn Parker, President of the Chamber Foundation, as he presents "Economic History of Fort Wayne" on Sunday, April 4 at The History Center as part of the George R. Mather Sunday Lecture Series. The lecture will include information on:
  • The location of Fort Wayne as a key transportation link
  • The importance of the rivers and the Canal in the settlement of the Northwest Territory
  • The contributions of the railroads
  • The interurban and the interstate
  • What brought Harvester and the East End Industries to Fort Wayne
  • The importance of Fort Wayne's output in World War II 
  • How the coming of General Motors turned around the 1982 recession in Fort Wayne
  • The search for alternatives to manufacturing in the last 25 years
Maclyn T. (Mac) Parker is an attorney with Baker & Daniels, and is the president of the Olive B. Cole Foundation and the Coliseum Board of Trustees. He has given lectures on the Fort Wayne economy to Leadership Fort Wayne, Quest Club and others. He is a former co-owner of the Fort Wayne Fury, and has received an honorary doctorate from Purdue University for community service work.
