by Kay Anthony, Graduate Retention Program Manager
On January 14, Mrs. Karen Hirschy invited me to hear presentations by five of her Homestead High School seniors who recently completed internships at various companies in Allen County. Students had prepared PowerPoint slide shows to share with classmates. Presentations included information about internships at companies ranging from dental offices to utility companies to large healthcare networks, to name a few.
Four of the five students expressed that their internships confirmed for them career directions they had already identified. One student said that her experience may lead to a different career choice than that of becoming an actuary. Hands-on career exploration is an exciting way for young people to become more informed about career choices prior to graduation from high school. Employers who are offering experiential learning opportunities are to be commended!
