The City of Fort Wayne is taking part in the State of Indiana Bond Bank's fuel-price hedging program.
The program protects Fort Wayne against unexpected price jumps. Fort Wayne is just one of six Indiana cities that are taking part. If the price of gas goes above the price cap set, the Bond Bank covers the difference rather than it coming from Indiana taxpayers. In July, it cost Fort Wayne an extra 7 cents per gallon to participate.
Expansion will be considered in the future to potentially include diesel fuel and school systems.
