Fort Wayne Community Schools' Budget Announcement

The Fort Wayne Community Schools Board of Trustees recently presented the district's proposed 2010 budget to the public. The $284 million plan is nearly $3 million less than the budget for 2009. The district did receive an increase in state funding for 2010 but the amount is not enough to cover growing costs. It is estimated that a minimum of 70% of the budget will be spent directly in the classroom, a higher amount than Indiana's historical average of about 60%.
