Ray Steup, WFWA 39 producer/director, along with, Matt Jones, Allen County Partnership for Water Quality Program Manager and The City of Fort Wayne were awarded a crystal trophy for achievements in the category of Education and Outreach during the Governor's Awards for Environmental Excellence ceremony. The award was given for their documentary production A WATERSHED MENTALITY, which appeared on PBS39 and has been released nationally by NETA (the National Educational Telecommunications Association, a national public television programming resource).

The award which was presented during the Association of Indiana Solid Waste Management District's 16th annual conference in Indianapolis on Wednesday, October 1, recognizes Indiana leaders who have implemented outstanding environmental strategies into their operations and decision-making processes. A WATERSHED MENTALITY brought to light the problems of sedimentation and erosion in the Maumee River Basin, the largest single tributary in the Great Lakes region. While focusing on one specific watershed, the documentary emphasizes a chronic problem for many waterways in the Great Lakes and throughout the United States.

This award is the latest award for this program, including a regional EMMY nomination. A WATERSHED MENTALITY was funded through a grant from the City of Fort Wayne's Board of Public Works, was produced in cooperation with the USDA, The Great Lakes Commission, The Great Lakes Basin Program for Erosion and sediment control and the Allen County (Indiana) Partnership for Water Quality.
