Parkview Field first Start! Walking Path in Indiana

Exciting news for Parkview Field and those who are looking to get some exercise outside now that spring is arriving. This week Parkview Field was designated an official Start! Walking Path by the American Heart Association - and it is the first path in our state to be so dubbed. So, those of us who are downtowners can add an additional element to our lunch break, and for those of you who are a little further out, the concourse is open year round to walkers every day from 7 a.m. to dusk.

There is no cost to walk, and restrooms will be available. In addition, beginning Memorial Day through Labor Day, Parkview Field will also offer a lunch cart with healthy options at minimal prices. One lap around the concourse is one-third of a mile.

The Parkview Field walking path will be used on April 7 for the National Start! Walking Day community walk which will take place at 11:30 a.m. If you participate in the walk, you will receive a Start! goodie bag at completion. Jay Gilbert, President & CEO of Physicians Health Plan, and Chad Carpenter, COO of the Parkview Heart Institute, will kick off the walk along with representatives of the American Heart Association. PHP and Parkview Health are local sponsors of the Start! initiative. Jay Gilbert says:

“PHP is honored to be a part of such an energizing and much needed initiative like Start! It’s exciting to see our community work together to make positive strides to improve the health of our residents.”

Sue Ehinger, chief operating officer at Parkview Hospital, says:

"We want to make healthy lifestyle choices a top priority in the communities we serve. ...We encourage people to find an exercise routine, such as walking 30 minutes a day. It can make a positive difference in improving cardiovascular health."

What do you have to do to participate in the walk on April 7th? Is there somewhere to sign up, or can we just show up to participate?

Great question! I haven't found anything that specifically states if you have to sign up or not. Here is a great Web site with tools and resources from the American Heart Association: http://www.startwalkingnow.org/. And then I would recommend contacting Parkview Field to ask if you need to sign up at info@tincaps.com or (260) 482-6400. Let us know if you need anything else!
