Continuing to work on improving bicycle infrastructure in Fort Wayne, Mayor Tom Henry announced the creation of the Bike Fort Wayne Task Force. The task force will advise City staff in the writing of a bicycle transportation plan.
With 40 members including cyclists and non-cyclists alike, the task force represents a diverse set of interests including employers, school districts, colleges and universities, trail groups, the Chamber the Fort Wayne Police Department, the Indiana Department of Transportation, City Council and others.
The first meeting will be noon Monday in the Omni Room of the City-County Building. The group will meet approximately six times from now through October with a public open house in late fall. The City also plans to make presentations to the area partnerships about the plan.
The Bike Fort Wayne plan will be project-based, presenting a series of infrastructure improvements, educational programs and policy recommendations.
Rich Davis, executive director of the Downtown Improvement District, and Vince Robinson, Fort Wayne/Allen County Convention and Visitors Bureau board member, are co-chairs of the task force.
