Samuel Adams Brewhouse, Seattle’s Best open with ribbon cutting
A new restaurant and coffee shop have landed at Fort Wayne International Airport, giving passengers a new option for casual dining and coffee beverages while traveling. On Monday, June 13, at 11 a.m., Samuel Adams Brewhouse and Seattle’s Best Coffee celebrated their grand opening with a ribbon cutting.
The Grand Opening Celebration began with opening statements from Tory Richardson, Executive Director of Airports, followed by a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and samples of beverage and food. Guests were invited to sign up for a chance to win a “Backyard BBQ” gift package.
Participating in the ribbon cutting and depicted in the attached photo were, from left, FWA board member Jerry Henry, Chamber vice president of air service development Dave Young, executive director of airports Torrance Richardson, director of operations for Fort Wayne First Class Concessions Charlie Wilkinson, general manager of Fort Wayne First Class Concessions Michelle Lockridge, President of Fort Wayne First Class Concessions, Martin Riley project manager Lisa Young, E&V Construction vice president of business development Steve Goodman, and Martin Riley architect Jack Daniel.
“We’re looking forward to giving passengers somewhere new to relax and enjoy themselves while traveling,” said Scott Hinderman, Director of Operations and Facilities. “Not only will these restaurants be a valuable asset for FWA for years to come but they’ll create approximately 15 new jobs for the community.”
For photos from this and other ribbon cutting celebrations, visit the Chamber’s Facebook page.
Chamber urges action on permitting plan
As published in today's Journal Gazette:
The Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce is in support of the current permitting and routing improvement proposal. We are encouraged with the steps taken by our local officials to streamline the permit process. This level of cooperation is both positive and necessary for marketing the advantages of locating or expanding a business in our community. However, city and county officials have been studying the permit process for more than a year, and it is time to act now.
Improving the permitting and routing process is an essential economic development tool for our area. We have heard numerous stories from our members and from local economic development organizations about the arduous procedures and inefficiencies in the current process that have hampered their growth and discouraged future investment and job creation. This improvement is imperative in order to streamline the system and help business growth. The city and county will not be signing a blank check. The proposal includes benchmarks to track the progress, transparency of the task force, and oversight by both appropriating councils.
Economic development does not wait. During the mayor’s press conference on this issue, he said, “The welcome mat is out for investment and job creation in Fort Wayne and Allen County. We know time is money, so we are committed to making it easier for businesses to prosper in Fort Wayne.”
The Chamber believes this proposal will help continue to build and strengthen our community. I, on behalf of my members, encourage our local officials to take immediate, swift action and set the wheels in motion for continued growth and investment in our economy.
MICHAEL S. LANDRAM President/CEO Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce

Samuel Adams Brewhouse and Seattle’s Best Coffee open at airport
A new restaurant and coffee shop are landing at Fort Wayne International Airport (FWA), giving passengers a new option for casual dining and coffee beverages while traveling.
Samuel Adams Brewhouse and Seattle’s Best Coffee will hold a Grand Opening Celebration on June 13 at 11 a.m. on the first floor of the terminal to mark their completion on both sides of the TSA security checkpoint.
The Grand Opening Celebration will begin with opening statements from Tory Richardson, Executive Director of Airports, with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony and samples to follow. Guests will also be invited to sign up for a chance to win a “Backyard BBQ” gift package. This event is open to the public and the Airport Authority will validate parking for attendees.
Planning for the restaurant and coffee shop began in February 2010 and construction on the $460,000 project was completed in just 5 months. The additions land FWA among airports like LaGuardia, Ronald Reagan National Airport (DCA) and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) in hosting the Samuel Adams Brewhouse.
The airport gift shop will also be housed in the newly renovated area. The shop will now offer an assortment of gourmet chocolates from DeBrand Chocolatier and will continue to carry a wide collection of Vera Bradley favorites.
The restaurant will provide a quality dining experience with burgers, wings, salads and dinner entrees. First Class Concessions will validate parking tickets for one hour of free parking if purchasing a meal at the restaurant. Samuel Adams Brewhouse will also offer a “Sam Adams On The Run” for travelers looking for a quick meal to go.
Seattle’s Best Coffee serves a variety of brewed coffee and espresso beverages, teas, and iced or blended beverages. The coffee shop will also offer sandwiches and light snacks.
The Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority (FWACAA) was created in 1985 and is responsible for managing the Fort Wayne International Airport and Smith Field. For more information about the Fort Wayne-Allen County Airport Authority, visit www.FWAirport.com.
