Heart Healthy Grocery Shopping with Kris Foate
A big part of being heart healthy starts in the grocery store by buying the right kinds of foods."There are so many products in a grocery store so it is a little overwhelming, but once you clue into what you are looking for, it becomes easier. You learn what product your family likes and you can stick with that," Lutheran Hospital Outpatient Dietitian Beverly Moellering said.
To learn what to clue in on, NewsChannel 15 went shopping with Moellering and Kris Foate, President/CEO of the Chamber. Moellering evaluated Foate's choices and recommended some better options.

Youth Summit to Highlight Servant Leaders
What can a young person in Allen County do to make a difference in their community? They can start by attending the third Allen County United Youth Summit to be held from 8:30 a.m. until 1 p.m., Saturday, February 21, at the IPFW Walb Student Union. The Summit will encourage discussion and a call for action on some of the most important concerns of young people.
Students have become more involved in helping with community service projects through school and youth groups, and as individuals. The Summit will allow them to take their actions to a new level by meeting with community leaders and other students interested in similar causes. Collectively, they can begin to see that by working on similar needs, they can create more synergy and create lasting change for their community.
The 2009 workshops students identified include addressing the issues of drugs and gangs, welcoming new immigrants, assisting animal shelters, homelessness, living with disabilities, and safe driving habits. Students will select two of the sessions to attend and generate new ways that they can make a difference in these areas. Those who wish to seek additional funding to assist with their project may do so through a Youth As Resources grant application.
The Summit is geared for all Allen County students in grades seven through twelve. February 14 is the deadline for registration for the Summit, which is required. More information can be found by contacting the Purdue Extension Service, (260) 481-6826, or visiting the web site: http://www.acuys.org/.

Mayor Henry Joins Hoosier Mayors for Trip to D.C.
Mayor Tom Henry and the Indiana Association of Cities and Towns (IACT) announced that they are traveling to Washington, D.C. this week to convince members of Congress to approve an economic stimulus package that quickly addresses valuable infrastructure needs and puts Hoosiers to work.
“Headlines across the country are focusing on President Obama’s stimulus package. I want Fort Wayne residents to know that I’m working with Indiana senators and congressmen to make sure they know the value of these plans for putting Fort Wayne residents to work now and for years to come,” Mayor Henry said. “By giving the money directly to cities and towns, we will be able to get it into the community quickly with our projects that are ready to go.”
Mayor Henry and IACT will be joined by a bi-partisan group of seven mayors from around the state to support a stimulus package that allocates significant federal funding for local infrastructure. The group will meet with several members of the Indiana congressional delegation on Wednesday during a day of meetings on Capitol Hill Wednesday.
