Parkview Health has pledged to Community Harvest Food Bank what will potentially amount to over $150,000 in operating funds over the next two months. Parkview will donate $50,000 to the food bank immediately, and as an incentive to encourage other business leaders and healthcare organizations within the Parkview and Community Harvest service area to step up and join them, Parkview has pledged an additional dollar-for-dollar match for donations received by companies up to $50,000 through December 31, 2008.

“Community Harvest is facing a dire situation due to increased need,” said Mike Packnett, President and CEO, Parkview Health. “By increasing our annual contribution to the food bank, we are encouraging other business leaders to come together and work collaboratively to help Community Harvest meet the demand for its services.”

“This is one of the largest single operating gifts the food bank has ever received,” said Community Harvest Food Bank Executive Director, Jane Avery. “We are so grateful for their generosity and thrilled by their progressive approach with the match which will translate into even more contributions from area businesses.”

ITT Technical Institute Introduces 2-Year Nursing Program

ITT Technical Institute of Fort Wayne is addressing the growing demand for nurses by introducing a new associate degree program in nursing. The program is designed to help graduates prepare to become Registered Nurses (RNs).

Denise Jordan, Program Chair for Nursing at ITT in Fort Wayne says “We are helping Indiana in its quest to provide qualified individuals an opportunity to become RNs. With the state facing a projected 30 percent shortage by the year 2020 it is important communities have ample programs available for qualified individuals. ITT Tech is prepared to help people pursue their dreams of becoming a nurse while helping to ease the community’s nursing shortage in coming years.”

ITT also cites statistics from the American Association of Colleges of Nursing that nursing will be the fastest growing job market through 2012, and that the country will face a shortage of a half-million nurses by the year 2025, as well as information from Indiana workforce development stating that the nursing occupation is expected to grow nearly 30 percent by the year 2014 in the state of Indiana due to high demand.

ITT Technical Institute is holding informational seminars on its new nursing program:

November 25, 2 – 3 p.m.
December 4, 4:30 – 5:30 p.m.

For more information on the seminars or the associates degree visit http://www.itt-tech.edu/campus/seminar.cfm or call (260) 497-6251.
